Driving Tips
- Always try to start your journey early in the morning and reach the destination by sunset. In most of the hilly roads in Uttarakhand, traffic movement is not allowed after 7 pm ( Char Dham Yatra route is open between 5 am – 7 pm ).
- While traveling during monsoon carry some snacks and water as you may come across road blockage due to landslides at some inhabitate. Prior to travel please check for the weather conditions along the route.
- The speed limit on the serpentine hilly road should be in the range of 35 – 40 km per hour. Check for effectiveness of brakes during the descent.
- Always be in your lane (left hand side) especially on the curves. Remember most of the accidents occur on the bends.
- Be cautious at accident prone zones, these zones are mostly highlighted by authorities by placing messages or sign boards or glow signs. Always follow other useful messages written on the road side.
- Uphill traffic has the first right of way.
Other Travel Tips
- Carry warm clothes as the temperature falls steeply in hills after rains.
- Do not travel empty stomach as it may lead to dizziness. Few people may experience dizziness while moving on hilly roads. Lime water and menthol candies are the best precautions to avoid dizziness.
Tips on Environment Presevation
- Usage of Polythene bags is banned in most of the hill stations. Please co-operate towards campaign against pollution.
- Avoid using pollutants such as detergents in springs or streams.
- Non Bio-Degradable waste like Plastic bottles and food packages should be disposed at the allotted places only.
Trekking Tips
- Always carry extra pair of warm clothes as the temperature at high altitude areas falls sharply.
- A raincoat is necessary to meet uncertainties of weather.
- Candies, Glucose, Chocolate and Dry fruit are instant source of energy.
- It is advisable not to exhaust energy by walking fast this may also lead to extreme fatigue during the initial phase of trek.
- Always carry emergency torch, first aid box and route map to avoid any odds.
